Breeding quality sheep from two new sheep breeds to Australia, being Aussie Cleanskins and French Charollais.
Supplying Australia and the world market, by way of private sales or annual Stud Sheep sales in Western Australia.
Our aim is to continue to improve the genetics to produce the most profitable and sustainable sheep breed combination for market demand and the Australian environment.
The Aussie Cleanskin was released in Adelaide in March 2011, being the first Australian developed clean shedding, hair type sheep, to be released in Australia, to suit Australian environments and markets.
I work with my female partner and we occasionally employ casual labour.
We have modernised our sheep handling facilities to make controlling large robust animals a lot easier and more user friendly. I have always relied heavily on our website to let people know what we are doing. This was not the best way in our early years, as we tended to be dealing with more lifestyle farmers than large commercial sheep producers. Computers and modern technology is now the way farmers operate and the whole world is in instant contact at the click of a button.
As our history shows, we at Bundaleersheep in Morawa Western Australia, were enjoying the benefits and profits of producing sheep from various South African breeds, starting from 1998. Australia was fortunate to be able to import from Africa in the mid nineties, prior to closing our boarders, as the results of the outbreak of various serious disease in many country's of the world. We soon became aware of different strengths and weakness that these very different breeds had, however like the African farmers, we could also see that world production of sheep for meat was the way forward for the future. Meat, being essential for food production, was always going to be the most reliable reason for farmers throughout the world to continue to farm these animals, as has happen throughout Human civilization.
Our vision was to develop a type of sheep, from all these very useful breeds, that would suit our farm lamb production. The use of maternal, low maintenance, productive ewes to produce quality prime lambs, with maximum profit per hectare, is now widely adopted throughout Australia.
Sheep producers of the world are now currently aware of different breeds of sheep, that not only will perform better for them, they will also for many parts of the world. These new breeds of easycare sheep are domestic animals that have never been considered previously outside of Africa. They are basically mini cattle which need very little labour input. Their fertility, survivability and ability to covert pretty much all plant material into high quality meat, all year around, is some thing that has to be seen to be believed. The figures will consistently show that producing these type of sheep will reliably produce the highest dollars, or nett return per hectare, than most other livestock in dry land farming over a period of years.
Our two breeds of sheep, fortunately can be sent to all parts of Australia, as well as the rest of the world. As a result of modern communications, globalisation and transport, sale can be negotiated and stock delivered, in top health, to anywhere in the world in a relatively short time. Cost is always a concern for everyone along the supply line, however, with livestock AI and Embyo Transfer, a very few animals with with elite genetics can soon generate large numbers of productive stock.
